Introduction to Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Technology
This class will train participants to design and install grid tied, battery-based, and hybrid PV systems.
PV panels produce electricity directly from sunlight and their popularity in the current renewable energy market is growing rapidly. Students will be given instruction in both a classroom and lab setting. Hands-on experience will prepare students for installing systems on their own. Classroom material will focus on the primary competencies addressed in the NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) entry level exam. Upon completion of the class, students will be given the opportunity to sit for the NABCEP entry level solar thermal heating exam. Current tax credits are providing an opportunity for local electricians and renewable energy enthusiasts to expand their careers into the solar market.
Class room hours: 25
Lab hours: 15

Introduction to Solar Thermal Heating
With excellent Federal tax incentives available, there is a current opportunity for future students to expand their businesses and careers into the field of solar installation. This 5 day workshop will provide students with in-depth training involving the installation of solar thermal heating systems. There will be both classroom training and hands-on lab activities throughout the duration of the class. Some topics of discussion will be: solar thermal water heating, solar thermal space heating, solar thermal panel technology, system troubleshooting, and safety and building code issues. Students will also be prepared to take the entry level NABCEP solar thermal heating exam at the end of the class. The time is now for renewable energy. Don’t miss this opportunity to expand your career into a growing field.

Energy Auditing and Home Diagnostics followed by BPI Building Analyst Exams (6 days)
The Building Performance Institute is a national standards development organization. This non-profit organization has recruited experts for development of numerous certifications in residential energy efficiency and weatherization. This entry level BPI course teaches the main principles of Building Science and provides students with the skills to assess home energy efficiency and health concerns within a building. Blower door and combustion analyzer testing are essential in any thorough home energy audit and students will be trained to use these instruments during the course. A competency in the use of these is necessary in the field exam for gaining the certification. The five day Building Analyst training course will be followed by a written and a field exam. Upon passing the exams, an individual will have the distinction of being a BPI certified energy auditor.

Insulation and Home Air Sealing Training (three days)
Air sealing a home should come first and it has a greater impact than just adding insulation. In this class students will spend hands-on time learning about the basics of home weatherization. One day will also be spent in the classroom where students will learn about building science fundamentals and how to apply them in the field during their home weatherization jobs. This class will be followed by the BPI Whole House Air Leakage Installer Certification Exam. Home weatherization is a booming business and here is your chance to get the training and certification you need to separate yourself from the competition.

Sustainable Home Education for Realtors (one day)
With increasing numbers of sustainable homes hitting the market, it is advantageous for realty companies to have associates who understand these homes and their complexities. This class will provide participants a quick avenue for learning the basics of passive solar design, renewable energy installation, and the basics of the new energy code- that requires that all new homes are built to a higher air-tight standard than homes of the past.

New Energy Code Education for Contractors (one day)
The newly enforced state energy code has radically changed the way that buildings are being constructed. Contractors can come to this one day course to learn about blower door testing, duct blaster testing, new VA inspection processes relating to energy efficiency, and other important information to stay up to date with code changes that may affect your business.

Introduction to Biodiesel (one day)
Come and learn the basics of home biodiesel production by spending a day with us and our in-house biodiesel processing system. Students will have the hands-on opportunity of making a batch of fuel during this one day class. Participants will also leave with literature and knowledge to design and build their own systems that can fit their fuel needs and budget.

Introduction to Solar Energy (covering PV and thermal; one day)
This class will cover all of the basics of solar thermal and solar photovoltaic technologies. This one-day intro class will give participants the knowledge they need to make informed decisions when it comes to installing solar systems on their homes or businesses. Other prospective students may be those who are considering entering the solar job market.

Solar Technology for Greenhouses (one day)
Are you trying to maintain healthy growing temperatures in your greenhouse during the cold winter months? Are you trying to further your need from fossil fuel heat inputs so that your operation is even more sustainable and economically feasible. This class may be for you. Learn about the benefits of using passive solar, solar thermal, and solar photovoltaic technologies to make your growing operation the most sustainable that it can be!

Anaerobic Digestion Technology
Education for those interested in biogas technologies is hard to come by and we have what you are looking for. Our in house anaerobic digester will be a platform for students to learn about the ins and outs of methane generation.
